When we refer to “Heart” we are referring to our personal lives with God which includes our internal motives and thoughts. Biblically speaking the heart is central to following Jesus as is the “wellspring” from which our actions and lifestyle flows (see Prov. 4:23: Mt. 6:21, 15:1-20, 22:34-40; Lk. 6:43-45; Rom. 1:21, 2:5, 15, 29, 6:17; 1 Cor. 4:5). Abiding in Christ is the foundation for following Jesus; without it we are bound to be motivated by something less than the glory and beauty of Jesus – resigning our spiritual lives to dutiful and joyless obligation.
